Maybe it’s human nature for like-minded people to splinter off into their own little cliques and sub-groups, or at least this seems to be the case with car enthusiasts. You’ve got your Show & Shine guys gathering in coffee shop parking lots, you’ve got your time attack guys going to the track on weekends, you’ve got your drifters sliding around industrial parks at 4 am, and you’ve got your hardcore drag guys keeping the straight-line scene alive.
The Canadian Sport Compact Series may be aimed predominately at the import tuner scene (though we saw a C6 Corvette in the time attack and quite a few trucks and even a few Jeeps in the Show & Shine area), but it’s still pretty special to see the time attackers sharing paddock space with the zip-tied and slammed drifters, while over on the other side of Toronto Motorsports Park’s grandstands the drag racers were doing burnouts while the Show & Shine crowd enjoyed some music while doing a little last-minute buffing and polishing.
There just aren’t many events anymore that bring all these different parts of our scene together, but given the huge crowds at CSCS’s third event this year, clearly there’s a lot of pent-up demand for this type of gathering. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we’ll be back to cover the season finale next month.
